The Crochet Street Canopy of Malaga, Spain

In Malaga, Spain, Eva Pacheco and her crochet students have created a shade canopy for a local street. The canopy is made of various blocks of colorful crochet stitched together and hung over a one of the local shopping galleries.

The project resembles yarn bombing in some ways, but was done in cooperation with the local environmental council when the council decided to replace a plastic awning with more attractive and environmentally friendly materials.

I’d love to see it one day and would love to see other projects inspired by this! It’s a perfect example of functionality meeting art.
